William Thompson Russell Smith was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1812 and emigrated to America, becoming one of the notable landscape painters of the 19th century American tradition. This print is attributed to his work based on style and subject. It was reproduced by Great Prints (G.P.), a catalog company that distributed educational and decorative prints, with catalog number 10732. These advertisement prints were produced for calendars, thermometers, and hand fans — this image has been found with a cut-out section where a thermometer was inserted, indicating its commercial life. This example is intact and complete, New Old Stock, pristine.
